Grand Victorian Convention Centre, at 175 Derry Road East in Mississauga, is known for grand chandeliers and elegant rooms. For this Hindu wedding ceremony, we designed a soft, romantic mandap in blush and white that felt both grand and intimate, with every detail leading guests’ eyes down the aisle to the couple.
The Design
- A framed entrance. Guests stepped into the ceremony through swagged blush velvet curtains, which framed the first view of the mandap like a stage.
- A draped mandap. Four posts wrapped in blush velvet, tied back with clusters of white flowers, and crowned with a canopy of cascading white florals.
- A flower wall behind the couple. Cream and white roses behind silver throne chairs, set against layered blush, ivory and gold sequin drapes.
- A candlelit aisle. A cream runner scattered with rose petals, lined with glass candle cylinders and white pedestals topped with white floral arrangements.
- Gold chairs for guests, which picked up the gold in the backdrop and kept the room warm and polished.
Why It Works
A soft palette of blush, ivory and white keeps the focus on the ceremony and photographs beautifully under indoor lighting. The tall canopy and layered drapes fill the height of a large room, while the framed entrance and candlelit aisle create a sense of arrival, so even a ballroom feels like an intimate space for the rituals.
Planning a Ceremony at Grand Victorian Convention Centre
According to the venue’s listings, Grand Victorian has nine function rooms across two floors plus a terrace, from small rooms up to the Grand Victorian ballroom for receptions of up to 842 guests, along with landscaped gardens and on-site suites. A few things to plan for:
- Confirm the ceremony and reception rooms. If both are in the same room, plan the turnover time between the ceremony and reception.
- Ask about the sacred fire. Venues set their own rules for the havan, which affect the mandap’s placement, draping and florals.
- Agree setup times for the mandap, flower wall and aisle, especially for a morning ceremony.
- Coordinate the colours with the room’s own chandeliers and finishes, so the decor and the venue work together.
